Learning Through Service (2018)

Learning Through Service (LTS) is a vital part of IDIA College of Technology & Development Studies. It is one of the academic pillars that seeks to evaluate students’ theoretical and analytical skills by testing them in a practical setting. Students are required to conceptualize, plan, execute, monitor and evaluate projects within the community and thereafter compile a report of the same to be submitted to the college. The projects involve identification of a problem within the community and initiating entry in order to offer practical solutions to the problem. LTS therefore enables the students to apply what they learned in class in real life situations in order to contribute towards development while at the same time building the leadership and management competencies of the student.

In this approach, supervisors, students, community members, partner organizations and other stakeholders involved in the LTS process become joint apprentices, problem solvers, leaders and trainers. Ultimately, the aim is to ensure that through the interventions brought about as a result of the execution of LTS, community situations will be transformed positively and the impact is replicated to realize sustainable development.
